Gogoro, a company transforming how energy is distributed and managed in megacities, unveiled the world’s first high-performance, zero emissions, two-wheeled electric vehicle, the ‘Gogoro smartscooter’ at the 2015 CES. Also announced at the Las Vegas technology event was the ‘Gogoro energy network’, a six second battery swapping infrastructure that places ‘Gostations’ vending machines across cities so that commuters can have access to portable power. ‘With the world’s megacities at a tipping point in population density, pollution fallout and rapid expansion, it is essential that we re-imagine the energy infrastructure and create a renewed mindset for change in tomorrow’s urban generation,’ said Horace Luke, co-founder and CEO, Gogoro. ‘The smartscooter and Gogoro energy network will capture the hearts of the next generation and become a catalyst for more efficient, cleaner, and smarter energy choices in our cities.’

With a G1 motor, the ‘Gogoro smartscooter’ redefines what is possible in electric motor design to deliver power, agility, acceleration, handling and overall unique riding experience. This performance is enhanced further when combined with the bike’s aeroframe monocoque chassis that is made from aluminum to ensure ultra-lightweight and strength. What makes the ‘Gogoro smartscooter’ intelligent is its iQ system which is as powerful as a personal computer, that wirelessly syncs across the moped, battery Gostations, energy network and the combing app. The clever application, available on smart devices, provides the owner with detailed diagnostics, customized regenerative braking and ride details so that they can optimize their power and energy consumption.

The battery inside the scooter is an engineering breakthrough using an array of technologies including 25 sensors, near field communication connectivity and 256-bit security encryption. This, together with the app, enables the user to locate charged batteries at Gostations, reserve ones in advance and pay for them wirelessly. ‘Gogoro is more than a startup. This is the start of an industry,’ said Luke. ‘Our products and business model will impact a variety of consumer areas to create a metropolitan ecosystem with better connectivity, easier access to energy, and a more enjoyable urban living experience.’
