Seemingly in a continuous global expansion mode, Aesopwww.aesop.com/ has recently opened its first Canadian store in Vancouver. Situated in Gastown, the city’s oldest neighbourhood, the shop occupies a compact 57 sqm. [614 sq.ft.] ground floor unit of a red brick building on water street and features an interior that’s inspired by the history of British Columbia’s forestry industry. Created by the Australian cosmetics brand’s in-house design department, the setting features a ceiling and walls entirely covered in a mosaic of bisected tiles of locally sourced Douglas fir. Timber cross-sections reflect a playful manipulation of proportions and texture throughout, while also referencing the outside pavement’s cobblestones. Shelving and furnishings are crafted from matching timber, and give the interior a coherent look. Adjacent to the front window, a recessed porcelain sink provides ample space for product demonstrations. The new Aesop store stocks the brand’s full range of skin, body and hair care product range.
