The HAODUOQIAN Skewer restaurant in Shanghai where the design concept integrates contemporary design with traditional elements and the project acquaints us with the past, the tradition and th story which comes together to create this inspiring yet relaxed atmosphere.
The design team from The Swimming Pool Studio took inspiration from the traditional bamboo culture in Chengdu. In the memory of old people in Chengdu, bamboo was not only a kind of traditional decoration material but also a common tableware. The designer used bamboo in the indoor facades in a variety of modern forms. The bamboo slices in organic arrangement, closely split bamboo wall, formed a sense of shelter and mixed into the dining space in harmony.
Every element in the restaurant has been carefully designed and positioned. The floor was paved with traditional terrazzo while the local pattern tiles tipped the different function partitions. The heavy old-wooden desktops are strong and full of the sense of primitive simplicity.
Stepping into the restaurant from the entrance with lights and walking through the passage, we come to different dining areas, tasting food or chatting. In such a modern dining space, we can fully experience the traditional hot Chengdu skewer culture and sense of simple.
