A cutting-edge World Food Hall to showcase the ‘Peacock’ food range within a lively eat-in environment. CADA Design were delighted to be asked by one of their longest standing clients’ – Shinsegae – to design an inspirational ‘Grocerant’ (Grocery/Restaurant) concept set within the heart of ‘eMart Town’. This 20,000 square foot Food Hall was conceived to showcase eMarts own-brand the ‘Peacock – Food Collection’, alongside a cultural and educational food experience.
eMart Town includes an hypermarket and wholesale warehouse, home furnishing store and multi-brand appliance store. Our client wanted “to set a new trend in retail business,” providing “a high-quality one-stop shopping experience.” said Shinsegae vice chairman Chung Yong-Jin.
Positioned as a prelude to a new eMart hypermarket, the Peacock Kitchen houses 15 individual concepts including an authentic BBQ, a Sushi bar, real Italian pizza and pasta, Indian curry and American style hotdogs. At the heart of the central space is the Demo Kitchen, with a rolling programme of inspirational cooking from around the world. CADA’s design focused on creating a powerful architectural space for this diverse food offer as well as an engaging retail experience.
CADA response to this ambitious brief was to celebrate each of the International cuisines. The space has a strong, unified identity with each food offer having its own individual feel, through variations of colour and material, identity and visual merchandising.
Lead designer Michael Sebti explains; “The challenge for eMart was to create a new type of retail space for their out of town destinations that would engage the customers’ imagination and persuade them to use eMart for their destination shop. Peacock Kitchen is an important part of this offer”.
