From now until July 15th 2016, Madrid’s Machado-Muñoz Gallery presents an exhibition of pieces by Fredrikson Stallard. ‘Fluido’ sees a selection of work — from candle holders and mirrors, to tables and sofas — on display, highlighting the designers’ interest in the dialogue between emotional and physical objects. With a decidedly methodical approach, Fredrikson Stallard adopt the latest technologies to create strictly controlled pieces. The resulting work blends both experimental and construction processes, with little left up to chance.
Objects included in the exhibition at Machado-Muñoz Gallery – such as the ‘Tokyo’ and ‘Detroit’ tables — display an almost impulsive and raw quality, yet their construction and design has been precisely executed. Sculptural works excavated from polyurethane — like the ‘Pyrénées’ sofa or ‘Species’ seats — maintain the physical characteristics of the creator, while maximizing the expressive potential of the medium. Fredrikson Stallard finally subvert these pieces by casting them in bronze — a material tension that forms a dialogue of contrasts.
