Finding brilliantly sourced, fresh and locally produced food is now one step easier if you’re at London’s Barbican. Sourced Market have recently opened the doors of their latest market, designed by London agency YourStudio. Created around the concept of a “food library” this fresh and abundant-feeling space houses both a retail deli and food store as well as an open kitchen serving grab and go and dining in food.

Open from early morning through to evening, with a range of craft beers on tap, the environment modulates to suit the time of day, effortlessly transitioning from bustling breakfast venue to sophisticate pre-theatre hang-out at night. The seating ranges from upholstered banquettes and Thonet bentwood chairs to window perch bars and a bespoke concrete cast sharing table with a central trough bursting with ferns and other woodland plants.

YourStudio worked with Sourced Market to create a space that feels warm and welcoming, whatever time of day you arrive. Quarry tiles on the floor draw reference from the nearby Barbican and Golden Lane Estates, with cast concrete industrial details.

A bespoke mural by Alice Bowsher illustrates local places and characters, giving diners something to look at while sitting in the window. The environment’s colours, textures and materials frame the transition from daytime to evening with soft lighting playing on white tiling and marble, drawing customers’ eyes to the food and drinks on offer.
