So, the Jil Sander store in Shanghai isn’t the brand’s only standalone boutique in China. It was actually preceded by the opening of a retail space opening in Shenzhen, the country’s affluent and also very fashion-forward tech hub just a few kilometres north of Hong Kong. The boutique occupies a unit on the premises of The MixC City, an upscale shopping centre in the city’s Houhai area, and features an interior design by the brand’s creative directors Luke and Lucie Meier in collaboration with London-based architect and designer John Pawson. Similar to the bigger retail space in Shanghai, the interior sees an infusion of Chinese granite, captured by displays, cabinets, dividers, walls and floor tiles. The chosen design codes are anchored by simplicity and understatement, but also take into account a balance between light, colour, line and materials, and without compromising functionality, all very similar to Jil Sander‘s core values. The new Jil Sander store carries men’s and women’s apparel, accessories, shoes, bags, small leather goods and jewellery pieces.
