Officially based in London, forward unisex fashion brand MITHRIDATE is led by brand founder Tina Jiang, and forms an integral part of BMG Group, a Guangzhou-based lifestyle conglomerate which, next to fashion, also includes a number of hospitality concepts. Following stores in Shenzhen and Shanghai, the newest MITHRIDATE store has opened its doors on BMG Group‘s home turf. Occupying an elongated 159 sqm. (1,712 sq.ft.) unit on the ground floor of a modern building in the heart of the city, it features an interior design by Shanghai-based architecture practice SLT Design. Aligned with Zhang’s evocative ‘Fashion for Art’ focus, which is anchored in the world of theatre and stage, the interior design taps right into it, cleverly merging reality and illusion. Framed by a façade adorned by linear stonework, the entrance evokes the visual drama of stage curtains.
Inside, a muted sand backdrop of undulating walls and matching parquet flooring anchor the space, punctuated by suspended curtains in midnight blue which can be moved and allow versatile store configurations. Upon entering, shoppers encounter an installation inspired by a lifting stage with spotlights situated opposite mirrors, creating an optical illusion of a much bigger space. The spatial drama goes full throttle at the back of the MITHRIDATE store with another setting, which ties in with the one near the entrance, but this one is bigger and demarcated by a circular floor of inlaid marble and a similarly shaped ceiling light. Here, an intricate layering of suspended curtains conceals additional nooks of the store, such as a fitting room, a comfy private lounge and storage space. The new MITHRIDATE store carries the brand’s full unisex apparel collection. © superfuture
