As one of China‘s first-tier cities, Guangzhou knows how to play the major league, offering both savvy dwellers and visitors a continuously evolving infrastructure dotted with alluring establishments that resonate well with an adventurous, contemporary lifestyle. In the latter category falls SIX SHARP, a newly opened bar in Tiande Plaza, a large downtown business, shopping and entertainment complex which sees both modern buildings and traditional structures. The SIX SHARP bar occupies 148 sqm. (1,593 sq.ft.) spread across two floors of a traditional building in Lingnan style, but given its forward hospitality concept, which is all about creative cocktails crafted with molecular cuisine techniques, the design codes by Chinese architecture practice ABS Creative Studio, are equally evocative.
A façade clad in stainless steel panels, paired with an LED screen right on top, forms the backdrop of lush Celosia plants which demarcate the venue’s front terrace. Inside, adventurous settings unfold, inspired by marine life. The ground floor bar sees a mystical deep sea effect created by a light membrane ceiling while an intricately constructed and futuristic SIX SHARP-branded submarine installation dangles from the ceiling, adding not only a distinctive, but also a whimsical element to the setting. Water-patterned stone flooring and stainless steel columns frame the setting, which is stylishly furnished with travertine tables, rounded leather sofas and corrugated metal wine cabinets.
Additionally, faux portholes with electronic screens further boost the visual magic. A narrow staircase leads to the upper floor where the sloping roof of the original traditional building is transformed into a ceiling light well. Additionally, the ceiling combines mirrors to form a hidden Cavitation, a magical phenomenon concealed in the deep sea, which magnifies the intricate details of attraction. Here, the bar stands out with a curved backdrop clad in gold leaf, counterbalanced by a ceiling-mounted creative digital screen, while a large equivalent adorns the side wall. The furnishings are similar to those on the ground floor. The design codes aim to capture spatial and sensorial opposites, which in turn, elevate the experience when sipping cocktails at SIX SHARP. © superfuture
