High-end fashion and a sizeable HNWI demographic are inextricably linked, and Hong Kong has long been one of those few places on the planet where a plethora of upscale retail has catered to voracious community with deep pockets. The city took a few damaging blows in the political arena these past few years, losing much of its lustre, but it looks like luxury retail is on the up again. Indicative of this trend is the recent opening of a Schiaparelli boutique. Following last year’s pop-up venture, the iconic Paris-based fashion house, led by American creative director Daniel Roseberry, has secured a 158 sqm. (1,700 sq.ft.) unit at the Prince’s Building of Landmark, one of the city’s preferred destinations for discerning fashion aficionados. Roseberry tapped Halleröd, an acclaimed Stockholm-based architecture practice, to create a fitting interior design, and the result oozes sheer opulence.
The boutique façade is unapologetically dipped in gold, as if signalling its reputation for highly exclusive womenswear and jewellery pieces. Taking ample cues from Hôtel de Fontpertuis, an ornate 18th-century townhouse on place Vendôme in the French capital which now serves as the Schiaparelli headquarters, it’s more a salon than a retail space – mind you, access is by appointment only – and consists of a sequence of interconnected rooms. The settings are dazzling, featuring a palette of lacquered wood, brushed metal, mirrored surfaces, and marble motifs. The main room, which features a slightly vaulted ceiling adorned with many of the house’s signature Surrealist symbols and motifs, connects a gold-infused boudoir on one side and a homey private nook directly opposite. The new Schiaparelli boutique stocks a selection of apparel, including denim pieces, bags and jewellery pieces. © superfuture
