The name alone may conjure up scenic an exotic African landscape teeming with majestic, wildly maned large felines, but apart from an abundance of decorative palm trees, Lazy Lion could be nothing further from the truth. The cocktail bar, nestled in the leafy downtown Lipótváros area of Budapest, only a stone’s throw from the Danube, has raised the bar in the city’s nightlife scene with excellent cocktails served in a stylish setting that’s reminiscent of a glorious, if not decadent, past era. The watering hole occupies a lofty unit on the premises of a grand, early 20th-century structure with an ornate façade, which was originally built as the headquarters of the Adria Royal Hungarian Sea Navigation Company. Mind you, the building has served as a backdrop for many well-known film productions, from Blade Runner 2049 and Colette, to Red Sparrow and Black Widow. The interior design, created by Barcelona-based design and branding practice Astet, reveals an adventurous universe, one infused with tropical flora decoration, leopard motif upholstery, and indeed, a lion positioned over the DJ booth, meticulously captured by a palette of stone and wood, and further accentuated by amber lighting. A corridor connects the bar to the main room. Here, walls are clad in bold patterned fabric, featuring three openings—two display animal figures, while the middle one leads to the restroom. Lazy Lion‘s main room is presented as a fantasy of reflections and textures, featuring a metallic palm-leaf ceiling and a continuous organic bench as a nod to nature’s sinuous. As said, Lazy Lion is first and foremost a cocktail bar, and consequently, its menu offers a wide range of classic and signature concoctions. © superfuture
