Angelo’s Wine Bar, secretly unveiled early this summer, is making its mark in the up-and-coming Albany Park neighborhood in Chicago. Once a busy take-out and delivery restaurant with a large dining space that was out of date and rarely used by diners, Angelo’s has transformed into a sophisticated destination. Inspired by age-old Italian wineries and eateries Slick+Designusa presents a design that is refined rustic Italian with a modern twist…

The rich interior is defined by the reclaimed barn wood cladding all of the walls in shades of brown & gray, accented with black tile and rusted metal. Custom bar stools, dining chairs and banquettes in varying shades of brown add to the relaxed yet provocative design that is accentuated with subtly dramatic lighting designed to the unique dining and drinking experience.

The bar, defined by the existing architecture of the building, functions as three distinct components; wine, beer, and libations. The LED illuminated back bar displays highlight the distinct bottles of the fine spirits used in the hand crafted cocktails. A custom designed beer tap system fits in seamlessly below an angled wall, and the wine dispensary systems house a rotating selection of featured wines. The antique leather finished black granite bar top brushed to a soft sheen and is the perfect platform for imbibing. The bar front is wrapped in reclaimed oak planks made from Guinness barrels; an artful nod to the craft beers served.

The wine room, a glass “cube” that can house up to 500 bottles, is not only functional, but serves as a focal point leading into the space. The intimate dining room is flanked by two large banquettes adorned with custom light fixtures above emanating an amber glow throughout the space. A row of tables in the center give the space a communal vibe and also enhance the menu concept of small shareable plates. Floor to ceiling bi-fold doors open completely, letting passersby view the glowing ambiance, and add yet another element to the dining and drinking experience inside. Attention to detail plays out in every selection and design decision which includes the incorporation of televisions in the space which only play classic Italian black and white films in the dining room while the bar features local and national sports games.
