Spawned from the idea to create tailored rainwear with an elegant sartorial edge, Norwegian Rain was founded in 2008 by business graduate Alexander Helle. We can only assume the notoriously precipitous weather in his native Bergen had a lot to do with it. In collab with bespoke tailor Michael Tetteh Nartey a.k.a. T-Michael, the other pivotal force behind the brand, and a number of other local creatives, Norwegian Rain gradually emerged onto the fashion scene, and is now stocked by a lengthy list of leading retailers across the planet. Following two flagship stores on home turf, one in Bergen and another in the capital Oslo, the brand has now expanded overseas.

The company’s latest retail endeavours have resulted in a foothold in London’s competitive retail arena. The Norwegian Rain boutique is situated in St. James’s, a downtown area of the British capital which is seen as a promising high-end shopping zone since the much-publicized arrival of Dover Street Market in march of this year. It occupies a 1,450 sq.ft. [135 sqm.] ground floor unit of the so-called Bafta House on the bustling thoroughfare of Piccadilly, and features an interior design that seamlessly matches the merchandise on offer. The setting is largely defined by two elongated white ceiling panels that create an optical illusion of a wider space.

A row of slightly elevated platforms right below present meticulously arranged product tableaux, backed up by similar showcases on either side of the retail space. Norwegian Rain’s new store carries the brand’s full range of men’s and women’s garments, including the signature raincho, in addition to suits, shoes and leather goods from t-michael and a curated selection of Scandinavian mid-century furniture pieces by Modern Tribute.
