There’s no doubt Louis Vuitton has played a pivotal role in the rise of Amsterdam‘s luxury retail scene. In fact, the luxury behemoth’s arrival in 2002 on P.C. Hooftstraat laid the foundation of its current stature as the city’s luxury shopping artery. Fast forward to 2020, and the street has become home to more than 35 brands from fashion and lifestyle’s upper echelon. As if to bank on the momentum, Louis Vuitton has relocated, a stone’s throw away, to bigger premises. The new store occupies 560 sqm. (6,028 sq.ft.) across three floors of a newly redeveloped building which features a stainless steel brick façade by acclaimed Amsterdam-based architecture practice UNStudio. The interior, designed by the company’s in-house design team, features clean sightlines which emphasize the spacious dimensions of the premises. Whitewashed walls and timber flooring form the backdrop for a variety of shelving, displays, tables and cabinets. A floor-to-ceiling wall at the centre of the store flanks the staircase which leads to the store’s basement section.
It’s covered in a diamond-shaped motif which matches the nearby pendant lamps, and combined with the bright yellow back wall, these elements offer a playful counterbalance to the overt elegance shoppers are immersed in. Additional furnishings comprise of chairs, complete seating arrangements, carpets and artworks which add a homey touch to the various settings. The ground floor presents Louis Vuitton‘s full range of women’s bags and leather goods, ready-to-wear and shoes. Also to be found here are sections dedicated to the brand’s fragrances, watches and jewellery pieces. On the floor below, the men’s department is situated. Similar to upstairs, a coloured back wall offers a playful visual note, and here it’s dipped in a deep blue shade that’s reminiscent of Yves Klein. The palette obviously bears a more masculine signature, but is equally stylish and welcoming. On display is a selection of apparel pieces, accessories, leather goods, shoes and travel items. But that’s not all. For the first time ever, pieces from Louis Vuitton‘s prestigious Objets Nomades collection are available in the Netherlands, in addition to a range of unique personalisation services.
