Although already present with a string of boutiques across China, luxury brand Celine sees room for growth, opening a new outpost in Shenzhen. Situated directly across the border from Hong Kong, this economic powerhouse has evolved into a shopping destination in its own right, pulling top brands from across the planet to its doorstep. The majority have converged at The MixC, arguably the city’s leading shopping centre, and that includes Paris-based fashion house Celine. Occupying two lofty floors, the store features the brand’s latest design codes as laid down by its creative director Hedi Slimane. A backdrop of marble flooring and pillars alternately clad in marble, stone, slabs of mirror or shiny brass provides a contemporary yet opulent setting for a monumental staircase encased by latticed glass and stone. Sleek steel clothing racks with built-in lighting protrude from the ceiling and optically enlarge the volume of the space, while a number of pillars are connected through shelving, providing additional display space. The premises are furnished with a tightly curated range of chairs, tables and lamps that further articulate Slimane’s highly distinctive retail vision. The new Celine store carries a selection of the brand’s women’s collection, in addition to its full range of perfumes.
