Tokyo-based women’s streetwear label PERVERZE was established in 2016 by group of anonymous young creatives which includes designers, photographers and editors. Interestingly, the brand takes ample cues from 1980s and 1990s vintage fashion, while blending in style elements that resonate with today’s young and savvy demographic. Following last year’s inauguration of an ephemeral retail space in Kyoto, aptly dubbed PERVERZE Temporary Presence, at the former head office building of Kyoto Bank, PERVERZE has recently opened a new retail space – mind you, this is another pop-up venue – across town, and once again, the space aims to be an experimental domain for sensibilities related to fashion, culture and art. Unsurprisingly, this second temporary retail space is called PERVERZE Temporary Presence II, and the interior design has been created by local design practice New Domain. The design, aptly themed Tentative, is intentionally unpolished. Rather than presenting a completed state, the retail space embraces experimentation and transformation as values in themselves, viewing space not as something fixed, but as something continuously evolving. The design makes use of the building’s concrete shell, while also incorporating deadstock fabrics of yuge fabric farm, the textile division of Osaka-based Essential Store, a quirky emporium filled with one-off vintage and antique trophies. © superfuture
