FCA designed Fox Rothschild LLP’s Raleigh office, creating a client-centered legal workplace with a hospitality-inspired café, adaptable conference spaces, oak detailing, and a custom illuminated reception feature wall that brings natural light and a welcoming first impression to the interior core.
FCA designed Fox Rothschild’s Raleigh office relocation as a sophisticated, client-centered workplace that balances the refinement of a leading law firm with the comfort and flexibility of a modern office. Located on the 11th floor of 301 Hillsborough Street, the new environment brings together a welcoming reception experience, a hospitality-inspired café, adaptable conference spaces, private attorney offices, technology hubs, wellness amenities, and collaborative breakout areas.
A key planning challenge was maximizing access to the building perimeter and natural daylight for the conference center and attorney offices, which required the reception area to be located within the building core. To create a bright and inviting arrival experience despite its interior location, FCA designed a custom feature wall composed of illuminated acrylic fins layered against an oak backdrop. The installation serves as a striking focal point, drawing visitors into the space while establishing a memorable first impression.
Inspired by Raleigh’s identity as the “City of Oaks,” the design incorporates oak as a unifying element throughout both front- and back-of-house spaces. Oak flooring and veneer contribute warmth and continuity, while the illuminated acrylic fins take their form from the profile of a White Oak leaf, creating a subtle and abstract connection to the city. This local influence is further enhanced through a rich, layered material palette featuring detailed stone, textured felt and fabric panels, custom wallcoverings, and decorative lighting, resulting in an elevated yet approachable environment for clients and staff alike.
The workplace was efficiently planned using a clear, rectilinear architectural framework to support functionality and streamline circulation. To balance this disciplined layout, curves were introduced through architectural detailing, ceiling features, the sculptural profile of the acrylic fins, and thoughtfully selected furniture, adding softness, comfort, and a residential sense of warmth.
The result is a polished legal workplace that supports focused work, meaningful connection, and employee well-being while expressing a distinctive Fox Rothschild presence in downtown Raleigh through a refined blend of professionalism, hospitality, and regional identity.
