The booth / installation was created both for Objekt magazine (Dutch edition) and an agency for home fashion Perspekta. The project is based on philosophical reflections on the nature of objects, their properties and relations with the world as well as on studying transformation of domesticity through decades starting from pre – modernity till nowadays.
Any object is determined by the viewer as a set of qualities and characteristics. By changing the object and transforming its qualities we inevitably transform our own consciousness. Simultaneously we create new experience and push the boundaries of reality.
I called this installation “IS” which means we don’t define an object as well as its meaning. We kindly ask a viewer to do so, to dialogue with an object of routine to fill it with new identity. IS installation is an experiment with knowledge and attitude to things that surround us in everyday life. We offer a new experience gaining from a contact with familiar objects.
The booth is designed as a rough building construction imitating a way people tend to follow everyday. We all know what table or chair is. We pass by them every time. But sometimes we meat a new experience, just like black out rooms, where the boundaries of ordinary life or things shift from one point to another. Is it a chair now? Who knows. Please think about it!
I also express special appreciation for Marina Relou, a Dutch designer from Eindhoven who presented her perfect unusual objects of ceramics in the booth.
