“BEYOND THE TIME” is a shop that deals in authentic vintages as a “shop in shop” in a traditional casual shop. As the first shop in Japan, this shop is located in Harajuku where a lot of young people gather, and we built a stimulating space differentiating from the existing shops in a town with a mixture of various industries and business conditions.
First of all, in terms of space, we have aimed for a select shop on the art side and produced a sense of rhythm in the space by using round hanger fixtures and by how they are placed. The shelf furniture gives movement and change to the space by illusions of the background reflections of the distinct box shape of the mirrored walls. For wall hanger system, we lined up pillars used for Western oracles, and built up its continuity and extent further with the effects of the mirrored walls in the contemporary space where the old and new coexist.
On the sealing, the grid joist representing the framework looks as if it is colonnaded. The color inside is balanced by wine red and royal blue, all close to black in consideration of vintage, which adds space to the space. Since they handle customization and remaking, they built the luxury feeling inside of fitting room and anterior chamber, which is opposite from vintage. Placing 20 lights of small crystal pendants on top of large remade sofa gives high quality and live feeling along with the large cheval glass.
Finishing most of the floor inside of the shop with mortar and waxing its surface considering coating so it looks more like a wooden floor, it represents the graphical feeling. Also, a long hair shaggy carpet around the fitting room gives even higher quality feeling. This is a shop more like an stage art salon, unlike any other vintage shops.
