Handpicked scrap metal transformed into luxury interior for new Jewellery brand Hirsch by metal Studio Ehlers & Visby. Hirsch Jewellery has just opened their first store in Aarhus, Denmark. Designer Maker Jan Ehlers retains the spirit of ancient natural corroded surfaces and builds the history into a new fresh story. The story about celebrating the qualities of The Old World in a clash with the galloping technical progress in lighting and the new opportunities it offers.

Metal studio EHLERS & VISBY collects and captures timeworn beauty in natural corrosion of used iron, brass, bronze and copper profiles. Our services include bespoke luxury furniture, lighting and interior designs crafted for site-specific spaces. Our assignment for the new brand HIRSCH Jewellery was to create shop furnishings for showcasing jewellery in a strict shop space of less than ten square meters, located in a modern townhouse on a vibrant and blended commercial street in Aarhus, Denmark.

HIRSCH is to introduce a new jewellery collection including uncut, rough and multi-colored diamonds presented in materials such as oxidized iron, carbon fiber, silver, white gold and gold. So the exhilarating task was to create furniture to exhibit such small charismatic commodities like diamonds in jewellery. It has been the perfect match. As HIRSCH, similar to EHLERS & VISBY, uses both classical materials and unusual textures alongside fine craftsmanship. It has been a pleasure working together to develop a unique identity and distinctive contemporary design that enhances Hirsch`s vision and speaks to the customers imagination.

As recycling is a signature for Ehlers & Visby’s work, we give preciousness to our scraps of the past by lighting molded glass in a bronze frame to grab both attention and a luxury wow factor. A form that tells a new contrasting story, far from the traditional bracelet on a bed of velvet. Moreover, it has been very important to us to develop excellent lighting with the right luminosity and color reproduction to catch the grandeur of the brilliance in diamonds and metals.

About metal Studio Ehlers & Visby, based in Aarhus, Denmark.
We make handcrafted, bespoke interior design solutions incorporating vintage components. We collect and reuse weathered treasures. Materials are hand picked from scrap metal yards, abandoned industrial spaces and where ever we roam. As collectors, it is our desire, to celebrate the heritage, quality and elegance of former times. We embrace the living legacy embedded in objects that have been used or discarded, seeing the process of ageing as something that amplifies the materials inherent beauty. These items have a remarkable atmosphere and appeal. Maybe because we all sometimes feel used, worn and discarded, and just hope that someone will show up and be able to see and appreciate the qualities that we all contain. It is both optimistic and touching, finding objects like gold in the gutter, and to appreciate them for what they really are, in all their glory. It is a true pleasure to salvage lovely aged materials from the irreversible meltdown in the big melting pot. We combine iron, brass, copper, bronze and other textured metals with exquisite materials such as, extraordinary stones, antique glass, gold leaf and exotic skins blending the Old Worlds sophistication with interpretations from a wide array of inspirations and styles to fashion new stories and dreams in our time.
