China is always on top of the the most modern and innovative design. Just take a look at this incredible book store in Shanghai! After opening in Jianwai SOHO community, Beijing in October, 2005, Kid’s Republic became the first specialized picture book store in China. This bookstore has the most luxurious setting that can easily transport their pint-sized customers into a world of color, fantasy and imagination. Keiichiro Sako, a 36-year-old Japanese architect from SKSK Architects is the genius behind this design.
The aim is to give children and their parents access to the best Chinese and foreign children’s books as well as a relaxing reading environment.
Children are surrounded by a rainbow-like ribbon that weaves it’s way throughout the store. Starting from the hallway it goes up and along the stairs until it reaches the bookstore where it twists and whirls throughout. There is a separate activity area where animation shows, storytelling and other fun activities can be found.
There is also a Reader’s Club where children can participate in various fun activities related to literature and reading.
