Merging two separate structures, this space layers local heritage with a modern aesthetic. Paying homage to the original department store space are interior and exterior murals and a retrofitted diner with an old-fashioned soda fountain. Specialty endcaps feature locally sourced foods. An herb wall that lets shoppers snip the desired amount minimizes waste. Enhancing the hometown ambiance are found objects, chalkboards with handwritten messages, and graphics of vintage seed packets. The prototype is easily adaptable for other locations.
