Roast is a voice against the hipster coffee bar. No more chalkboards, no more scaffold wood. Intimacy hides in human buzz, not in glass pickle jars used as smoothie container. The walnut bar and golden frame are key elements in the interior that give Roast its warm character. The counter top is made out of a plastic rig mat – like a classic granite bar with a weirdly coloured, synthetic layer over it. Combined with the angled, cut-off interior you could say that the shop has a bit of a quirky character. We can honestly say it has caused an uproar in the stuffy city of Alkmaar. With only 15.000 euros to spend it was a low-budget project, but in no way cheap in appearance.
