Daan is one of Taipei’s most happening neighbourhoods on more than one level, and that includes all things retail. Its streets are lined with some of the best stores this vibrant city has to offer, and not surprisingly, Aesop decided to partake in the action and set up its second signature store here. As with the majority of its boutiques, the Australian cosmetics brand has teamed up with a local design firm, in this case Taipei-based CJ Studio. Taking cues from the Taiwanese capital’s multicultural history, the interior a monochromatic palette of dark terrazzo covering the floor and up the walls, and offset by walls, shelving and ceiling in a pristine white hue. The stone material also takes shape in an eye-catching, chunky sales counter – a standard fixture in all Aesop stores – and a large, elongated sink equipped with shiny brass faucets. another nod to local culture is the Chinese calligraphy which adorns one wall, in addition to native Taiwanese plants that can be found both indoors and right outside. The new Aesop store stocks the brand’s full range of skin, body and hair care products.
