The retail goal for Samsung at Sherway Gardens Shopping Centre was to create an environment for customers to experience the various mobile and electronic offerings. The design needed to reflect and showcase Samsung’s product line by using streamline architectural details, clean surfaces and an accent of futuristic style.

The storefront played a large part in showcasing the brand and their offerings. With a large entrance opening and low iron glass window display glazing the interior of the store becomes a part of the storefront elevation. The solid surface side wall and upper bulkhead invites and subliminally guides the mall patrons into the store to experience Samsung’s electronic products.

The form and mass of the storefront creates an impactful visual from any angle of the mall corridor. The up-lighting grazes and highlights the embossed Staron solid surfaces along the upper bulkhead façade. These embossed panels angle inward and flow in a continuous motion down the entrance side with an impressive Samsung 95” large format display (LFD) integrated into the panels.

Elements used in the storefront are also repeated in the interior. The angled lines are reflected in the central display tables, transaction desk and customer service stations. Majority of the display surfaces are constructed with the same Staron product for continuity. Hints of brushed stainless steel frames out storefront and interior perimeter displays to add the accent of futuristic style. Design elements from Samsung products were also used in the interior pieces. The curved rounded corners of Samsung’s mobile devices finished off the central display tables, customer service stations and lowered ceiling detail in the back customer service area.

Cutler wanted to keep the material palette simple, clean and stylish to reflect the design concept and showcase Samsung’s products. The colour scheme was kept to bright whites, cool greys and a touch of warm off whites. The bright white tones were used on all the Staron solid surface, the back cash wall paneling and ceiling finish to highlight various destination points outside and inside the store. The perimeter walls are finished in a warmer off white to better highlight the brushed stainless steel frame displays. The flooring was keep to a simple matte cool grey large format porcelain tile for the clean architectural platform.

Towards the back, the customer is greeted with a transaction desk and custom service stations as an added touch point for a more customized service and product knowledge. These stations are design with angled lines to balance and repeat the design element from the storefront.
Sales and consultations services are provided in this space but Samsung’s main goal was to create brand awareness and an experience environment for the Ontario market. For Samsung’s first introduction into the Ontario market, we wanted to make a statement that was unique to Sherway Gardens that hasn’t been done before in Canada. To set a precedence for future stores to come and provide an environment that reflects their product and brand style.
