Interiors and branding studio, B, have designed Papersmiths’ new London store in Boxpark, Shoreditch which opened its doors over the last May bank holiday weekend. Founded by young creative duo Sidonie Warren and Kyle Clarke, this is their second Papersmiths store opening, the first being in Bristol..
The 300 sq/ft shipping container honours the minimal, browser-friendly atmosphere found in the Bristol Papersmiths store known for its design-led stationery and paper goods. Working with three primary materials – European solid Douglas timber, speckled jesmonite and dusky pink encaustic tiles – together with a muted palette of light and neutral tones, B have created a bold yet simple interior to showcase the products. B have collaborated with Nottingham based surface designer, Katie Gilles, on bespoke jesmonite surfaces and display plinths. “Freckled with black and pink pigment, the jesmonite reflects the tactile qualities of handmade paper while chalky pink tiles and Dinesen Douglas floating shelves in a white Lye oil and soap finish provide a soft, neutral backdrop.” says Sidonie Warren, co-founder of B and Papersmiths.
From notebooks to pencil sharpeners and fountain pens to scissors, the new Papersmiths store stocks the classics and essentials from the likes of Midori, Bindewerk, Appointed and Kaweco, alongside new trend-led products which will change seasonally – notebooks from Parisian stationery designers Papier Tigre, storage from Esme Winter, Italian Write Sketch And products made with Fedrigoni papers and office items from Hay.
Browse through handpicked magazines including Wallpaper*, Cereal, Noble Rot as well as design, interior and lifestyle books from publishers Gestalten, Phaidon and Laurence King and Lost in City. Homeware pieces such as blankets from Ditto House in Ohio and Maison Louis Marie candles from Los Angeles have been carefully added into the mix of this considered curated space. Founder Sidonie Warren says “We’re thrilled to be making our London debut at Boxpark. We’ll be nestled amongst independent and global lifestyle and fashion brands and eateries. The diverse creative community of Shoreditch provides the ideal London home for Papersmiths”.
As part of B’s rebrand, the studio has designed and created a new range of packaging instore using three paper stocks and colours from Fedrigoni – Terra Rossa terracotta orange (warm and welcoming); Woodstock Azzurro turquoise (happy and bright) and Woodstock Cipira blush millennial pink (neutral & light). This inspiration derives from squiggles found where they should be – on Papersmiths’ test the pen pads – and squiggles where they shouldn’t be – drawn on the table. B have built on the irresistibility of doodling with a new pen and created a visual identity with a sense of playfulness that celebrates creativity. With a newly designed London store and curated selection of stationery, books and magazines handpicked from designers and makers across the globe, Papersmiths provides the goods to inspire the mind alongside the tools to create.
