The new retail gallery adapts a ‘back to basics’; a way of life in simpler times, where “repair” vs. “replace” was a more sensible way. This very idea is also observed in many 18th Century heritage buildings in Malaysia which are refurbished to retain its original character, authenticity and identity.
Floor design was an integral part in communicating the design concept and we went for one that gave a connection to the signature Royal Selangor’s weave pattern. Each craftsman of Royal Selangor made their mark by supplying a matelassé tiles which we used as a backdrop of the counter. We are profoundly optimistic, even with ecological issues, which bodes, but old is now new, and is the harbinger of healing, rebirth and new starts.
