It’s undeniable that Miami‘s Design District has become one of the planet’s most coveted shopping grounds in just a few years time. Already a notable hub of stores by leading luxury brands, its meteoric rise has yet to see the end, despite circumstances in the recent past. The latest coveted name to arrive with a flagship store is Milan-based apparel brand Stone Island. Following the opening of stores in New York City, Los Angeles and Toronto, this is the brand’s fourth outpost in North America. The Italian company has secured 280 sqm. (3,014 sq.ft.) retail space spread over two floors of a modern structure with a marble façade and striking higgledy-piggledy windows, rubbing shoulders with peers from the upper echelon of fashion and lifestyel such as Off-White, Bottega Veneta, Rick Owens and Tesla, and who all recently set up shop here. The interior design is by architect and longtime collaborator Marc Buhre of German practice Zeichenweg, and sees bush-hammered stone flooring and matching walls, interspersed with parts in through-colour MDF and metallic mesh on a steel substructure. Furnishings are in black-stained natural oak and the wall-mounted clothing racks are composed of carbon bars and anodised aluminium, paired with shelves in shades of anthracite. The new Stone Island store carries both the Stone Island and Shadow Project collections.
