The Gentle Monster store at IFC shopping centre in Shanghai opened only four years ago and is one of the leading eyewear brand’s two prestigious outposts in China‘s leading fashion hub. As of late, and totally in line with its ongoing drive for innovation, the retail space has been revamped and sees a new setting infused with evocative technology. Designed by Gentle Monster‘s in-house design team, the applied theme is ‘Independence’ and is anchored by an installation of a giant moving monster’s tail, or in fact, exposed vertebrae of shiny metal enshrined in no less than three different arches, all against a backdrop of black stuccoed walls. If you ask us, we’re guessing the theme is a pun, referencing the dismembered tail. The installation is surrounded by a variety of displays, cabinets, wall-mounted shelving in matching metal or contrasting timber, laden with Gentle Monster‘s latest collections, and last but not least, large-sized photographs. A separate art installation is situated up front, and quite literally so, comprising of large visuals of the aforementioned tail. The renewed Gentle Monster store carries the full range of sunglasses and optical eyewear, including Unopened: The Probe, the brand’s much anticipated new collection.
