Resonating well across South Korea and managing a string of stores, shop-in-shops and depositories, FREITAG sees room for further growth, opening a standalone store in Hongdae, one of the most popular shopping areas in Seoul. The retail space, a collaborative effort with local retail partner Jun Co., occupies a ground floor unit of a modern five-storey building, and features the brand’s signature utilitarian aesthetic. The store is designed by Leandro Destefani while construction was executed by Yigak Constructions. Floor-to-ceiling windows allow unobstructed views, revealing a fully stripped setting which fully lays bare the building’s concrete shell. Galvanised steel shelving lines the entire back wall, and is shielded off by yellow metal fencing. This on-site warehouse section is directly connected with the outside through a conveyor belt. In front, sits an elongated shelving wall, a fixture in all of FREITAG‘s retail spaces across the planet, backed up by a series of moveable green metal storage units. One side wall is covered in slabs of mirror which optically enlarge the premises, while on the opposite side, a work station is situated. The new FREITAG store officially opens on Sat – Sep 25 and carries the brand’s full range of tarp bags, pouches, wallets and accessories.
