The white facade of the hamburger chain ‘Bun Burgers’ at the Brera district in Milan almost tones down the zesty palettes its interior treasures. As diners step into the space, they find themselves basking under the divisive, vibrant hues of pink, purple, green, and hints of gold and cream, a contrast from the plain shade outside. The design nods well to the signature style of ‘Masquespacio’, a creative consultancy created in 2010 by Ana Milena Hernández Palacios and Christophe Penasse.

The duo reinvents the concept of a swimming pool. Square-shaped tiles carpet the rooms of ‘Bun Burgers’, feigning an invitation to the diners to take a break from bathing. The walls double as reflectors with overlapping hues of pink and purple to mimic the ripples of the water, while a pool ladder hangs on one side as a decoration. Cushions pad the seats that resemble benches while individual stools anchor a gold-colored leg to deviate the spectrum of colors.

Mirrored effect
In another room, the design tells a different but symmetrical narrative. The purple-clad room boasts arches to nestle the diners into their cocoon, and a flight of steps raises the seating on a higher level. The honey-hued seating complements the purple streak, creating a seamless look across the interior. Past the entrance, blushes of pink and green command the space with their peppy shades, all while anchoring the same padded-bench-seats setting of the other rooms.

As the designers state: ‘the outcome became a place to discover where a mirrored effect recreates the feeling of being surrounded by waves of water. Through the dry plants in the spaces, an innovative touch was added, fitting perfectly with the more mature aspect that seemed relevant for the project and that echoes the district’s vibe.’

The creative agency
Combining the two disciplines of their founders – interior design and marketing – the Spanish design agency creates branding and interior projects through a unique approach that results in fresh and innovative concepts rewarded with a continued international recognition by media specialized in design, fashion, and lifestyle trends. Their collaboration with the hamburger chain continues such an ethos that pervades their blueprints and approaches to projects.

While the designers admit that their recent project employs less splashy colors compared to their previous works, their identity fails to waver and just comes out. A dose of hypep-up colors reinvigorates the artistic personality of the Brera district. This time, while chewing on juicy burgers and frothy milkshakes.
