For many, holiday is synonymous to shopping, and on the tropical island of Hainan, this indulgence is facilitated on a whole new level. The latest brand to be lured to this popular tourist destination is Stone Island which has set up shop at the Sanya Duty Free Complex in Sanya, the island’s biggest city. The store occupies a 180 sqm. (1,938 sq.ft.) unit on the second floor and features an interior design by acclaimed architecture practice OMA/AMO. The new Stone Island retail concept, which has been applied to a handful of the brand’s latest retail spaces, revolutionises its retail identity, transcending transactional activities and being designed to share experiences and interact with its loyal fanbase. Upon entering the store, shoppers come across a large digital chandelier which screens various branded footage. Walls clad in burnt, sandblasted and burnt cork form the backdrop for shiny, stainless steel displays, clothing and shelving units, all in an easily adaptable configuration, enabling various in-store events. The new Stone Island store carries the brand’s full range of apparel, accessories and bags, including items from the Shadow Project collection.
