Part of the Singapore-based Charles & Keith Group since its inception in 2005, the fast-growing PEDRO shoe brand evolved from being a purveyor of men’s shoes and accessories to designing diversified collections encompassing women’s shoes, bags, accessories, fragrances and even home furnishings. PEDRO‘s rapid expansion is also reflected in its retail network which stretches across several countries in Southeast Asia, China, Taiwan, Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. One of the latest retail spaces to open, is a flagship store in Ho Chi Minh City‘s buzzing downtown shopping area of Ben Thanh. The store occupies a 257 sqm. (2,766 sq.ft.) space on the ground floor of a modern low-rise structure and sees an interior design by PEDRO‘s in-house design team which, and that’s a first, steers clear from a generic concept, embedding elements of local culture in the various settings. Upon entering the premises, shoppers find themselves in an uncluttered, light space.

Here, furnishings merely comprise a semicircular tiered display of black marble, flanked on either side by backlit wall-mounted shelving with metal trims and matching display tables. Two separate display tables, crafted from wood, tie in with the store’s mid section. Encased by timber, captured by tiered shelving with a fluted base and a slatted ceiling, it’s additionally furnished with striking tubular seating units. The back of the store resembles the front section, albeit somewhat tweaked as it features a comfy seating area and a sales counter in black marble with a fluted backdrop which references the façade. Next to being simply a retail space, the new PEDRO flagship store aims to actively interact with this bustling city on a different level as it will also double as a venue for a rotation of art installations of local artists.
