Following outposts in Oslo, Cape Town and Paris, Stockholm-based eyewear brand CHIMI expands once again, and this time, across The Pond to New York City. It’s in the upscale shopping district SoHo where founders Daniel Djurdjevic and Charlie Lindström have secured a unit on the ground floor of a modern multi-storey residential building by French architect Jean Nouvel on Grand Street, wedged in between the boutiques of GANNI and Ecco. The interior design, a collaborative effort with CAMPUS, an architecture practice in the Swedish capital, takes cues from a surprising source—the striking black and white photography of Japanese lensman Hiroshi Sugimoto.
The latter’s brilliant play with light and shadow has been captured by a monochromatic setting of forms, planes and fluid lines which almost oozes a meditative vibe if it weren’t punctuated by the pop of colour provided by two tables and wall-mounted shelving. Additional furnishings and fixtures are few, comprising merely of metal displays and seating. Lighting at the CHIMI store adds to the spatial dynamic, and sees a low of linear light fixtures placed in the narrow yet lofty front porch and which extend on the slightly lower adjacent ceiling where they flank a large organically shaped light box. The new CHIMI store stocks the brand’s full range of eyewear and apparel.© superfuture
