Flexport’s Shanghai office by UNION Architects creatively reflects the vibrant company culture, integrating shipping-inspired design elements, dynamic spaces for gatherings, and potential for future expansion.
Flexport is an American multinational corporation that focuses on supply chain management and logistics, including order management, trade financing, insurance, freight forwarding, and customs brokerage. Flexport’s software integrates and connects ERP data from various companies involved in a supply chain, which allows them to manage information about cargo and streamline freight processing.
When we set out to design the office for Flexport, we knew we had to create a journey that truly reflected their dynamic and vibrant company culture while showcasing their business coverage through innovative design.
The front-of-house area is a space filled with possibilities and transformations. By opening 3 by 3 m pivoting doors the reception can be combined with the training room, gaming area, and canteen, seamlessly connecting all the functions into one, creating not only functional but also perfect space for large company gatherings and epic yearly town hall meetings.
Taking inspiration from the shipping routes and cargo maps, we decided to incorporate recycled container walls as a striking and unique design element.
But the excitement didn’t stop there – the entire office space was filled with a plethora of meeting spaces, each with its own dedicated color and pattern inspired by the breathtaking architecture of local Shanghai Shikumen. Custom-designed graphics adorned the walls, effortlessly blending the essence of local Shanghai culture with a tasteful integration of historical elements.
The space itself was designed to be bright, vivid, and full of life, with the potential for future expansion onto one or even two more floors. The possibilities were endless, ensuring that Flexport’s office would always be a space that inspired collaboration, innovation, and growth.
