Located in Shanghai’s Jing’an District, this project transforms an old residential building into a yakitori restaurant. The design inherits the spirit of Shanghai’s unique Lilong (lane house) culture—originating in the late 19th century, these narrow alley communities are vivid symbols of Shanghai life. Lilong spaces extend daily life outward, where cooking, washing, chatting, and children’s play naturally shape a communal atmosphere. Amid rapid urbanization, such open lifestyles are disappearing. This project seeks to revive the openness and sociability embodied by Lilong spaces through the tangible setting of dining.
