Now here’s a watering hole after our own heart. We’re talking the sleek, newly opened VV’s Cocktail Room in New York City. Why? Well, the backdrop alone makes it worth venturing here, because it largely comprises – dare we say as true obsessives? – panelling from our fav modular furniture system—USM. The bar occupies a compact. 400 sq.ft. (approx. 37 sqm.) space on the premises of a 21-storey residential building, featuring an interior design by local hospitality entrepreneur and designer Josh Greenspan. Designed in collaboration with Swiss company USM, the bar design takes not only cues from Greenspan’s Big Apple bar hopping, but also trips to Hong Kong and Tokyo, and the refined and advanced hospitality he immersed himself in at establishments there. It was in the latter two alluring cities where Greenspan encountered one of the planet’s earliest cocktail omakase experiences in eclectic surrounds. The latter aesthetic, which is best described as a mash-up of old and new from to mid-to-late 20th century point of view, is reflected in VV’s Cocktail Room. The floor-to-ceiling USM panels, which even cover the bar front, are paired with glass block wall at the entrance, while the chairs and stools are upholstered in a rich burgundy fabric. The bar comes with a sturdy walnut counter which ties in with the tables directly opposite. Hovering overhead is an elongated and undulating light fixture reminiscent of traditional Japanese lanterns, while atmospheric lighting further boosts that cosy 1980s vibe Greenspan is so mesmerised by. © superfuture
