Prada opens a new store in Nagoya, Japan inside the city’s Nagoya Tower. The new space houses the Prada collections of ready-to-wear, bags, accessories, and footwear for both women and men, as well as certain limited-edition products created especially for the store opening. These include the patent leather ‘Yo-Yo Bag’ in an exclusive black and blush colour-way.

Designed by architect Roberto Baciocchi, the store is located in an impressive square within the city and spans over two levels covering a total surface area of approximately 900 square metres. The strong impact of the facade makes a relevant and striking visual impression that changes throughout the day. That is, the plays of daylight on the polished titanium and gold surfaces give way to a backlit image at night.

The main entrance leads to a large open space containing a series of polygonal-plan environments, which each display different types of merchandise. The ground floor is dedicated to women’s small leather goods and to the men’s collections, which are situated behind the impressive central staircase. Women’s bags, accessories and footwear are displayed in an elegant and spacious environment to suggest a refined atmosphere. The men’s area is characterised by explicitly masculine touches reflected in the choice of materials such as rosewood, polished steel and black saffiano leather for the display cases and light-brown velvet for the armchairs.

The luxurious black marble staircase is characterised by a suspended space lined by bronzed mirrors, through which the imposing steps rise, allowing for reflections and plays of light. On the first floor, the womenswear area reflects the identity of Prada stores around the world: walls upholstered with green canvas, an alternation of beige carpet and black-and-white chequered marble flooring, sumptuous materials and touches of colour. The tone of ivory saffiano leather bestows the space with a graceful mood, whilst the furnishings clad in smoked mirrors accentuate the displayed products. Refined glass and polished steel display cases, as well as curvilinear velvet sofas complete the design.
