Upcycle is a series of lamps made by Eindhoven-based designer Benjamin Spöth.

Carefully hand crafted from leftover birch plywood, Upcycle is a family of five lamps that layer millimeter thin strips in different ways. Says Spöth, “While playing around with different pieces, the lamps finally got their shape. Multiplex wood is an interesting material to work with for a lampshade. Every second layer of the plywood shines the light through the material due to the thin slices in combination with the structure of the grain. Some parts of the lamps are steamed before bend in shape in order to stay in the desired form. These different pieces combined offering another layer play of shadow and light.”
