Italian practice Archea Associati has completed a vast complex for the Chinese city of Liling, a region known for its production of ceramics. Alongside its primary function as a museum, the site also includes a hotel and an industrial area for hands-on processing.
The various structures are arranged in a circular plan, with each volume taking the shape of a sculpted vessel or vase. Delineating sinuous contours with no sharp edges, each building is clad in a variety of patterns and colors, with earthy red and amber hues accentuating the vase-like forms. Rather than placing an emphasis on specific functions, the internal program is fluid with an abundance of internal floor space.
