Mohle Design has designed the new offices of natural gas company Mitsui E&P, located in Houston, Texas. MEPUSA is an oil and gas exploration and production company headquartered in Houston, Texas, which currently has a substantial investment in the Marcellus Shale Gas Project in Pennsylvania and markets natural gas through MMGS, Inc., an affiliate of Mitsui & Co., LTD. It also has investment in the Eagle Ford Shale oil & gas project in Texas since 2011, owns another substantial working interest and produces Condensate, NGL and Natural Gas.
Mitsui E&P USA LLC hired Mohle Design, after the firm’s completion of their sister company’s floor below, Mitsui & Co. USA Inc. in 2014. The concept was to provide a functional, fluid, modern space for visiting executives, while still eluding to Mitsui & Co USA Inc.’s design. Mitsui’s office designs are loosely based on regional influences. The resulting design of the Houston office is a great display of the melting pot between Texas, Japanese, and American culture.
The workspace is a mix of private offices and open plan. Mohle Design provided a calm and quiet background for this traditional work environment, while also providing a technologically advanced conference center. The break room serves as a cafeteria during the day and a catering area for company provided lunches or for hosting large international conferences.
In an effort to stay on budget, MEPUSA was able to reuse their existing workstations and private office furniture. The majority of the ancillary furnishings hold the clean lines of Japanese design, while the finishes show a tranquility inspired by nature. Lastly, the first impression exiting the elevator, two David Edward settees make a bold statement in the reception while exuding elegance of screens and standing trees.
