Following much-publicised store openings overseas, HUMAN MADE, founded by Japanese cultural icon NIGO, is shifting gear on home turf, opening a flagship store this weekend at home base Tokyo. The brand has secured no less than 595 sqm. (6,405 sq.ft.) spread across three floors of a modern building in Harajuku which was previously home to the Takeo Kikuchi flagship store. The interior design, created by I IN, a Tokyo-based architecture practice which also designed the HUMAN MADE outposts in Shanghai and Osaka, is not only clean and slightly futuristic with playful touches, but also sees an infusion of hi-tech. The building has retained its expansive glass and metal façade, revealing to passers-by even more glass and metal inside, captured by stacked storage containers, albeit behind glass, cabinets, display units and counters, all laden with coveted HUMAN MADE merchandise. The ground floor is anchored by a large sales counter adorned with a lion statue, while the main retail space with all the merchandise can be found one floor up. The top floor is empty an can be used for various purposes. As said, the store is fully aligned with the online world, allowing shoppers to order using their smartphones by scanning a QR code attached to the product Staff will then confirm the order and prepare the product downstairs at the sales counter. The new HUMAN MADE flagship store carries the full range of apparel, accessories, shoes and lifestyle items. © superfuture
