It’s a wine lover’s library: this shop in central Bucharest is designed to present wines as books, framing their labels against a post-industrial aesthetic of exposed wood and concrete. BvS Wine Traders was designed by Beros & Abdul Architects to serve as both a shop and a space for wine tasting and events.
The architects stripped the fake walls and ceilings in the historic building to expose wooden beams and concrete floors. The simple look keeps the focus on the wine itself, which is displayed on two ‘wine walls’, and theatrical lighting present the wine’s labels as the ‘protagonists’ in the shop, the designers say.A long wooden table, custom-designed oak stools, a bar and ‘reference desk’ where visitors can ask for advice and uncork bottles for tasting completes the shop, which doubles as an event space in the evenings.
