This is a renovation of a Starbucks store that was completed in early 2012. The store was designed to respond to the young, up and coming, hip demographics of the Hollywood District in Portland. Located at a busy intersection and thoroughfare into the city, a wall of handmade ceramic tiles provides a strong visual to motorists passing by. A large single image of the sampling of coffee on a coffee farm completes this visual.
There is a custom leather banquette that provides comfortable seating against the glass store front of the building, as well as custom community table / coffee tasting table fabricated from re-claimed telephones at the ‘heart’ of the space. A hot-rolled steel plate acts as both a restroom vestibule partition, and a magnetic community board for the posting of happenings in the neighborhood. The store was designed by the Starbucks Americas Design Studio located at the Starbucks’ Headquarters in Seattle, Washington.
