No fewer than 5 restaurants opened their doors for the first time this past weekend as part of the vtm show “Mijn Restaurant!”. Mojo designed the entire interior concept and corporate identity for Art Kwizien, Sofie and Steven’s restaurant in Dendermonde.
The design concept is very much a reflection of the young duo’s personality on the one hand and the art deco building in which the restaurant is located on the other hand, with a pinch of ‘jazz club feel’ for good measure.
The brasserie is bathed in a subdued atmosphere which makes for a very cosy interior; a place where patrons can really feel at home. The design incorporates architect De Bondt’s original colour pallet – the man who designed the building – along with luxury materials such as glazed tiles, croco leather wall paper and cognac leatherette benches, which all allude to the art deco period while simultaneously creating a feeling of luxury.
The large, central bar – itself a repetition of the shape of the building – represents a key element in the design and aids the social interaction between patrons and personnel. The combination of glazed tiles, black trespa and black metal strongly influence the brasserie’s look and feel, while the large ice bucket built into the bar reinforces the feeling of luxury.
Other key elements are the large benches upholstered in cognac leatherette, contrasted with the dark brown walls, chairs and bar stools in a variety of leathers – a more feminine and trendy touch. The darker atmosphere of the lounge at the rear of the restaurant makes it ideal for jazz concerts, birthday parties or cocktails. A large mirror reflects the front section of the brasserie while incoming light is broken by bottles of Perrier Jouët – which also makes for a commercially beneficial dynamic.
Finally, Mojo also developed the complete corporate identity for Art Kwizien: the name, the logo, the menus and the stylish sign on the façade – itself something of an attraction. In fact, it is definitely worth visiting Art Kwizien in Dendermonde purely from a design perspective.
