Meanwhile across the pacific in Singapore, Aesop already managed two stores but has now added a strategically located shop-in-shop on orchard road, the city’s most prominent shopping boulevard. Situated on the ground floor of Tangs department store, the new outlet has been designed by Russell & George, an architecture + design practice based in both Melbourne and Rome. As always, Aesop’s shop interiors incorporate compelling design references, and this time it’s traditional medical laboratories of the early to mid-20th century.
The design uses a palette of ivory and soft sea green while a black-tiled countertop reiterates the retail space’s utilitarian aesthetic and recasts the modest tile in a scientific manner. European oak has been used for the shelves and flooring, and offer a warm contrast. Aesop’s new shop-in-shop carries the brand’s full range of skin, body and hair care products.
