Miramar Being one of the fastest growing areas in terms of gastronomy, it is not surprising that people linked to this industry are recurring and assessing the area in order to settle there. This was the case for Pizza e Birra (PeB), who contacted Lab787 for their services in order to develop their second restaurant on the Island.

Enjoying an excellent reputation among tourists and locals, to PeB the only thing missing was being able to identify the right place to start the construction of their fully designed second venue. Once the place was chosen an unexpected surprise was uncovered beneath a vinyl surface, a detail that for Puerto Ricans is an essential part of their culture; encaustic cement tile was found. This piece was later used as an element of inspiration for the design of the space.

With a rustic style in mind, we sought to highlight the characteristics of each material used during the construction process. In the same way that we appreciated the visual richness of the cement tile found on site, we performed the same exercise with the other materials and components that were used during the construction process.

As part of the requirements set by the client some details were emphasized, for example the need for creating a bar with the capacity to serve as many people as possible and a wine cellar s which in turn became an ideal place for small tastings and meetings.

The main bar was developed using reinforced concrete. Lab787 recruited the services of BCS CONSTRUCTION CORP. for this project and for the construction thereafter. With vast experience in construction and with creativity and responsibility that distinguishes this local company; it was possible to develop a fully functional piece which in turn highlighted the richness of the materials used.

For the construction of the cellar native woods such as mahogany where used, emphasized the wealth of the material by creating a pleasant atmosphere for both wine aficionados and for the general public.
