Carbon, created by Huddersfield University product design graduates James Whitfield and Sean Sykes at their Yorkshire-based company Legacy is a new take on a classic design, a slim wallet with a an intuitive card ejection system that elevates three stored cards out of the wallet to be easily accessed. On the reverse, a high quality elasticated fabric creates a separate flexible strap for cash, extra cards and life’s little extras. The profile of Carbon keeps the wallet discreet in any pocket, making only a small outline in a trouser or jacket.

Carbon’s crowdfunding campaign is expected to win pledges on both sides of the Atlantic and is the culmination of an extensive 6 month research and development period. Legacy’s creative director, Sean Sykes said “We wanted to create a wallet that has the same level of build quality with the same intuitive design found in high-end smart phones. Using the very latest materials and manufacturing techniques, we set out to make sure Carbon would stand the test of time and be in a league of its own in a, sadly, very disposable market.” Made using a metal core of aerospace grade aluminum the wallet is completely RFID (radio frequency identification) secure.

Lightweight and highly durable, the leather in Carbon wallets offers up to 200% abrasion resistance over the very best hide leather. The carbon fibre weaves chosen for Carbon are utilised in aerospace and Formula One design. Carbon fibre impregnated leather, otherwise known as carbon leather, is widely used in high end cars such as Jaguar and luxury yachts but the team at Legacy have crafted it into an affordable life accessory.

The Legacy team hand craft each wallet in the UK from locally sourced materials, supporting the local economy and ensuring the very best quality is achieved every step of the way. To take Carbon into full development and production, Legacy are launching a Kickstarter campaign on the 23rd September, where an early bird pledge of just £20 will get the backer a Carbon wallet in time for Christmas.
