M Moser Associates have created a new wellness center for global media company Viacom as a part of their New York City offices.
A major goal of this project was to redesign the space to create an amenities hub and destination floor for employees. This required relocating Viacom’s employee printing facilities to a centralized location called “Tech Connect.” As a support area for the Tech Connect print area, the design also incorporated display areas for employee photos along the corridor, encouraging community building and sharing. The design focuses also on a wellness center complete with two low impact exercise rooms, a mobile nail salon, massage and medical screening rooms, changing rooms, and a refreshment/café area for Viacom staff.
The central design idea inspiration was the concept of “pattern links” bold color with graphic pattern in with dialogue and movement. The original floor was a fully built out office space with long dark corridors. M Moser brought light into the entire project by creating glass entrances for each of the destinations, flooding the long corridors with natural light. The project took full advantage of the wide corridors by incorporating built in seating as well as a full lounge area, complete with a crystal chandelier.
The program required maintaining the “pitchfork” like public shaped circulation spaces, and the design articulates a custom “traveling” experience that tells a story as you walk through. Adding some artistic flare to the project, a local artist was brought in to create a mural along the main corridor that embodies the Viacom community and ideals. The statements on the walls establish a memorable, fresh, sense of place while enabling wayfinding through this custom, a one of a kind installation.
