Amidst Bangkok’s ongoing retail boom, Aesop has made a modest entrance in the thai market, setting up its first retail space at Siam Paragon, an upscale mall in the heart of the city. Situated in the venue’s beauty hall, surrounded by a slew of coveted luxury brands, it occupies a 10 sqm. [108 sq.ft.] space, featuring an interior design that was created in collab with Melbourne-based architecture practice Russell & George.
The aesthetic takes cues from elements found in traditional Thai buildings, such as stepped details, ordered geometry and multiple eaves, and translated into a tiered cubic structure that seemingly telescopes out from a blackened steel counter. This brass-clad focal point houses a sunken demonstration basin, and references to the gilded surfaces of many of the local temples and palaces. Subtly contrasting with the linear design is a beautiful desk lamp by Italian fraternal designers Achille and Pier Giacomo Castiglione. The new Aesop counter carries the full range of skin, body and hair care products.
